Beautiful Glen Abby Trail Plus a Stop to the Bakery

Walking along this trail, you see lots of trees, some bridges, a swift-flowing ravine and at times, some houses which we felt resembled a ski chalet you'd see in Quebec.

Beautiful Glen Abby Trail Plus a Stop to the Bakery

I had a nice walk along Glen Abbey Trail in Oakville two weeks ago. I thought it was a lovely walk for three reasons:

  1. It’s a nice relaxing flat trail. I’d call this an easy route to walk.
  2. The trail is in great condition – mostly hard-packed and nicely maintained.
  3. Bonus: It’s really close to Monastery Bakery!
Ravine at Glen Abbey Trail

This trail follows along and around a stream which I thought was really nice. It reminded us of another Oakville trail called Morrison Creek Trail (North Side) also in Oakville.

Walking along this trail, you see lots of trees, some bridges, a swift flowing ravine and at times, some houses which we felt resembled a ski chalet you’d see in Quebec.

Let’s talk about the location of this trail because Waze’s directions were incorrect. And Alltrails will show you the loop only. But if you look closely, Glen Abbey Trail continues to meet up with Taplow Creek Trail, across that trail and to Nottingham Hill Gate Rd.

You can see it more clearly if you :

Here's the route we took:

We parked at Cottonwood Cres, across from Pilgrim Wood Public School (where you see the black dot).

Side note: An even better place to park would be Glen Abbey Community Centre. From there you cross Glen Abbey Gate Rd to begin the trail.

From there, we walked the Glen Abbey Trail loop (2.3km). This took us approx 30 mins, and because we were interested in a one-hour walk, we continued along Glen Abbey Trail. We walked NE for an additional 15 mins out and stopped short of Taplow Creek Trail before heading 15 mins back.

Overall we spent 1.10 hrs and walked 4km.

I’m hoping my pictures give a clear representation of the condition of the trails. We found the trails were nice and wide, generally smooth, and hard-packed with some paved areas.

Bridge along Glen Abbey Trail

Finally, if you finish the beautiful walk and you’d like to go for an espresso and some pastries, you are a very close drive to , one of the best bakeries in all of Oakville.

Overall, Glen Abbey Trail is nice and accessible. The stream and bridges add interest to this trail. The houses you pass by resemble chalets you’d see at a ski hill. This is a very nice area of Oakville.

  • Nearest washrooms at Glen Abbey Community Centre.
  • Nearest parking is either on a side road as we did, or in the parking lot at Glen Abbey Community Centre.
