Scrub a Dub Dub, it’s Foam Fest St. Catheries!

5K Foam Fest St. Catherines

It was a warm and beautiful morning on Saturday, 20th of August, as I drove in tandem with teammates through the beautiful Niagara Region. It was early, so fruit stands were not yet open. Beautiful orchards surrounded us on both sides as we neared the entrance to Balls Falls.

Being early had its advantages, and we were parked close to the entrance. The most giant inflatable slide I had ever seen was directly in front of us! Yowsa, that’s high!

The gang gathered inside, attached our race numbers and headed to the foamy start line. The foam was piled higher than the crowd. At the “go,” we all started the run through the blinding wall of foam that covered our entire bodies.

You need not be an elite athlete to participate in Foam Fest. This fun and relaxed sort of race can be run or walked. As well it’s for children and adults.

What struck me the most was how beautiful and scenic it was there. I spoke to one of the “Wonder Woman” team members who jogged alongside me. “Just gorgeous out here!” she shouted over to me. The view itself is a reason to enter this race.

I loved the slides into pools, the mud pool, the rope climbing, and the giant inflatable tubes obstacle we vaulted our bodies over. The only exception for me was the Washing Machine! Oh my goodness, I believe I inhaled some foam on that one. It was completely filled with foam. One gets through this obstacle by holding our breath, closing our eyes and feeling our way through, hoping not to fall over another runner.

Overall, the event was the most fun I’ve had all summer! I’d definitely do this again next year, and I highly recommend this to people who are looking for a fun challenge.
