Trail of the Week
You might not know this, but I’ve done a ton of research, and I keep a massive list on Notion to keep myself organized. I’ll have new trails for the next century! But in reality, I chuck the ones with bad reviews and those so short they aren’t worth getting there for.
If you head out on a trail and have some great pics, please share – it’s always nice to have more personal and updated info/photos.
Burlington Beach
(The Beachway)
Summer is not the only time to enjoy the beach. This is the season to see the waves along a relatively empty beach, stop and check out the horizon and enjoy the coast of Burlington. Someone described this walk as “Waves splashing. Evening breeze. Sunset”. Pure poetry!
In my searches, I saw a couple different names for this trail. Essentially it is a part of the very long Great Lakes Waterfront Trail. I’d say the best walking/biking guide is the AllTrails Map for Burlington Beach.
"Burlington’s Trail splits into two sections on its western end. When travelling from East to West, the Trail splits just west of Spencer Smith Park at Maple Avenue and Lakeshore Rd. Head south along the Beachway over the lift bridge beside the skyway ..." (excerpt from waterfronttrail.org)

The trail here is usually paved, but some areas are stone dust. If you start at Spencer Smith Park and head south, it’s a 5.1 km out-and-back trail. It takes an average of 55 mins to complete.
Many folks advise going right up to the end of the pier. It’s worth it just for the view.
Next week, I’ll talk about the northern route from Spencer Smith Park.
