Spencer Smith Park and Waterfront Trail in Winter
The picture says it all. Spencer Smith Park and Waterfront Trail is a gorgeous place to go in the summer or winter, but let’s talk about winter.
This weekend is an excellent time to go because the Festival of Lights is there until Jan 8. Apparently, “60 magical lighting displays are set up at Spencer Smith Park.”
But even when the lights are taken down, this is a beautiful spot on the shore of Lake Ontario. You can stroll out to the pier or down the pathway to the Lift Bridge. The Trail from Brant Street Pier at Spencer Smith Park to the Lift Bridge is about 3.5km and completely off-road, which is great for walkers.
And you don’t have to stop there. Once over the Lift bridge, you can continue for another 6 km along Hamilton’s trail — also entirely off-road and lakeside to Confederation Park.
There is also a skating rink in the winter at Spencer’s. It’s too warm now, but the temperatures will soon drop enough to freeze our outdoor rinks. So mark this one down for your next outing. You’ll love it!
