Casalinga - Authentic Italian Cuisine
Casalinga in Mississauga offers “a touch of Florence in Clarkson Village serving authentic Italian food and our famous wood-burning oven pizza.”
You will thank me for this information, my dear readers, because this restaurant is fantastic!
Before I go into the details of the dishes we tried, let’s talk about the sauce. One of the distinctions between a good and a great Italian restaurant is their homemade sauce. Casalinga’s sauce was one of the best I’ve ever had. This tangy, tomatoey sauce had just the right texture and taste. It’s so good I’d consider purchasing a pint of their sauce to use on my home pasta or to dip bread in.
Imagine authentic Italian dishes that will transport you to the streets of Florence. Casalinga Ristorante had various appetizers, salads, wood-fired pizzas, pasta, and more. They also serve Italian wine, which is lovely to sip while enjoying this fine meal.
We tried one of the most popular starters, the Bruschetta, a classic Italian appetizer made with ripe tomatoes, fresh basil, and garlic on top of toasted bread.
If you’re in the mood for something heartier, try the Lasagne al Cinghiale. This dish features layers of homemade pasta, wild boar meat, and a rich tomato sauce, all baked to perfection and topped with gooey cheese. Everyone at our table got a taste of this hearty dish, and we all agreed Casalinga’s lasagne was exceptional.
If seafood is more your style, Casalinga owner Mario suggests Spaghetti allo Scoglio, which has shrimp, scallops, clams and calamari. We tried that as well and found it to be a wonderfully creamy, indulgent meal that will satisfy any seafood lover.
Finally, we tried the Vitello Parmigiana (Veal Parm). This classic Italian dish features breaded veal cutlets topped with tomato sauce and cheese, all baked to perfection. It is served alongside penne alla vodka. This was my meal, and I found it to be savoury and delicious. I’d definitely recommend this dish.
And for dessert, the restaurant makes the Tiramisu and the Creme Brule in-house. We tried the amazingly decadent Tiramisu, which was light, creamy and delicious. Everyone dove into that one so fast, I had no time to snap a photo!
Believe it or not, many of you have probably driven by this restaurant without even knowing it. So next time you go to Clarkson GO Station, check out the restaurant on the NW corner of Winston Churchill and Erin Mills Pkwy.
My husband has been driving by this restaurant for years on his way to work and had no idea it was there.
Overall, Casalinga is a must-visit restaurant for anyone who loves Italian food. The dishes are inspired by the flavours of Florence and are sure to transport you to the streets of Italy.
And just for Going-Places subscribers, Mr. Marzooghi is offering a free coffee to anyone who can show this article to the waiter.
So next time you’re craving a delicious Italian meal, give Casalinga a try. You won’t be disappointed.
