I have so much to share with you about Pumpkins After Dark

I had a wonderful conversation with Sarah, one of the owners of this family-run nighttime experience. She shared some interesting details that you just won’t find anywhere else. Plus she gave me a promo code just for Going-Places subscribers!

Pumpkins After Dark is located on Tremaine Road in Milton (see map below). Families can go and see several themed displays, including:

Intricately hand-carved pumpkin sculptures

“In the daytime, they don’t look imposing, and some pumpkins, you can’t really see the carving. But, at nighttime, when they are lit up, the Jack-o-Lanterns come alive, and they look incredible,” said Sarah.

Fun themes

As well as the pumpkin tunnel and other pumpkin sculptures, Pumpkins After Dark features some of our favourite classic horror and goth themes (family-friendly – no blood or gore), such as King Kong, Godzilla, and Freddy Krueger. Also, there is a hockey theme for the hockey fans (almost all of us, right?).

🎃 Artists spend hours

Sarah recommends we look closely to check out the incredible detail of the sculptures and displays, “you can see each hand stroke, she said. Artists pour hours into each sculpture.”

I didn’t know that Pumpkins After Dark is never the same from one year to the next! According to Sarah, only 20% of the fan favourites are kept; the rest are all brand new displays. (By the way, these photos are not spoilers! They are from last year so you’re going to see many new things when you go this year.)

How do they keep making new displays?  Well, Pumpkins After Dark actually has 5 locations, (with Ottawa being the newest this year). They rotate their shows so every year guests get a new experience!

🎃 Live demonstrations

Onsite, there will be live pumpkin carving demonstrations by artist Kara who is the “Queen of Pumpkin Carving,” or by Master Carver Joe (pictured above), who can create a face on a pumpkin that looks amazingly realistic.
